Canyon Designs began building rustic picture frames at our remote homesite off the Alaska Railroad. Soon after we came up with the idea for Alaska Mats. Their quality, reasonable price and easy handling made them an instant success with tourists. We were soon getting requests for mats from vacation destinations all over the world as well as custom mats for special occasions and VacationMats was born.
Unfortunately we're not making many frames anymore and very unfortunately we're not spending as much time at the homesite as we once did, but we are enjoying exploring vacation destinations ourselves and creating mats for your memories and ours!

We’re Monica and Matt, and for us VacationMats is about preserving moments — the trips you planned for months, the places that surprised you, and the memories worth holding onto. Each mat is thoughtfully designed to highlight the destinations that matter most, from once-in-a-lifetime adventures to favorite places you return to again and again.

Though our workshop is now based in Arizona, Alaska will always hold a special place in our hearts. We love the railroad homesite where this idea began and hope to spend more time there in the future, continuing the tradition that inspired VacationMats.
